LEACH and GIGAVAC Develop
New Family of 270 Vdc Aerospace Contactors
BUENA PARK and SANTA BARBARA Calif., June 12, 2006 - Two industry leaders, Leach International, an Esterline Corporation component and equipment manufacturer, and GIGAVAC, today's expert in high voltage relays, have announced development of a new family of 270 Vdc aerospace contactors utilizing GIGAVAC's EPIC T (Extended Performance Impervious Ceramic) technology. With EPIC T technology, the new contactors will benefit from unique sealing properties that enable components to withstand the severe environments of high voltage power generation and distribution systems
According to Mark Thek, president of Leach International North America, "This new family of 270 Vdc Leach contactors is designed to meet the power control requirements of the next generation aircraft, including unmanned aerial vehicles. With EPIC technology, these contactors will be compact, lightweight devices with significant advantages over currently available products."
GIGAVAC's president Mike Molyneux commented, "Many of us at GIGAVAC have worked with Leach in the past on the co-development of 270 Vdc power controllers. This latest teaming allows GIGAVAC to utilize its high voltage switching expertise to develop new sealed, high-current 270 Vdc contactors for the military/aerospace market without losing focus on our core markets." Molyneux adds, "We both have highly skilled offshore manufacturing capabilities to reduce costs when volume becomes significant. This 'team' will be good for the industry."
The new contactors will be featured at the Esterline exhibit, Hall 1, Stand B11, Farnborough Air Show July 17-23.
